Capella Sacelli and Super Librum

sat 8 oct 2022
Theme: Early Music

On Friday 14th October in Concertzender Live two recordings from this and last year, both by Dutch ensembles. First the Capella Sacelli with the programme ‘Polyfonie aan de Kalverstraat’ (recorded on 2nd July 2021 in Utrecht) and on 13th March 2022 Super Librum presented a new organ in Engelbert.

Reborn renaissance
The new all-male quartet Capella Sacelli led by Jeroen Spitteler played in the concert programme ‘Polyfonie aan de Kalverstraat’ renaissance works by Josquin des Prez, Pierre de la Rue and contemporaries.
There is both sacred  and non-sacred music from among others the Occo Codex, a superbly illustrated choir book from around 1525. The Codex is named after its owner, Pompeius Occo, who himself lived in the Kalverstraat.
From this Codex Capella Sacelli also sang parts of a Requiem by Antoine de Févin, a work of which we know that it was played at the start of the 16th century between the Kalverstraat and the Rokin.

Super Librum
In March 2022 the Groningen ensemble Super Librum played a special concert. The Quirico-organ was presented, built by organ maker Winold van der Putten. He made the organ using as his model a decorated piece from around 1485, which is now to be found in the church of San Quirico d’Orcia.
The concert was played by organist Wim Diepenhorst on the Quirico-organ and Jankees Braaksma on recorder and percussion.
After the concert a minute’s silence was observed for the passing of the organist Liuwe Tamminga, at the start of 2022. Tamminga was closely associated with the ensemble and organ builder van der Putten.
